Natural interferon, immunity and wellbeing: key insights from the webinar with José María Sánchez Navarro

Global MPN Scientific Foundation recently hosted a new educational webinar as part of its Wellbeing Project, focused on understanding how the body naturally produces interferon and how different lifestyle habits may influence the general functioning of the immune system.

The session was led by José María Sánchez Navarro, nutritionist and integrative health expert, with experience in micronutrients, dietary therapy and active cellular nutrition.
Under the title “Understanding how the body naturally produces interferon,” the webinar offered an educational perspective on the biological mechanisms involved in natural interferon production, cellular nutrition, inflammation, stress, the gut microbiota and the role of essential vitamins and nutrients.
Understanding the body better
Interferon is a protein naturally produced by the body and is part of the immune system response. In the context of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), interferon is also known because there are treatments based on this molecule that may be used in certain patients, always under medical indication and hematologist supervision.
However, this webinar did not focus on interferon as a drug treatment. Instead, it aimed to help participants better understand how the body takes part in its own processes of regulation, defense and balance.
From an integrative perspective, José María Sánchez Navarro explained how different lifestyle-related factors may influence the body’s biological environment and the general functioning of the immune system.
Cellular nutrition, proteins and immunity
One of the central themes of the webinar was cellular nutrition. During the session, José María explained the importance of providing cells with an appropriate environment so they can carry out their functions efficiently.
The webinar also addressed the role of proteins in the immune system. Proteins are involved in many biological processes and are essential for the structure, communication and function of cells. Understanding protein synthesis and its relationship with the immune response may help patients and caregivers gain a broader view of how the body works.
The session also reviewed the role of different essential vitamins and nutrients, always from an educational and complementary perspective. This content is not intended to provide individual recommendations or replace personalized medical or nutritional advice. Its purpose is to help patients and caregivers better understand general mechanisms related to health.
Stress, inflammation and the nervous system
Another important topic was the relationship between stress, inflammation and regulation of the nervous system.
Living with an MPN can involve uncertainty, fatigue, concern and changes in daily life. For this reason, understanding how sustained stress may influence the body is especially relevant within a broader view of wellbeing.
During the webinar, José María discussed the importance of supporting a more balanced internal environment through habits that may help with nervous system regulation, rest and daily self-care.

Gut microbiota and immune health
The session also explored the gut microbiota, an area of growing interest because of its relationship with immunity, inflammation and the body’s overall balance.
José María Sánchez Navarro explained how the gut can be part of a wider conversation about immune health, nutrition and wellbeing. From this perspective, taking care of diet, rest, stress and daily habits may contribute to supporting a healthier biological environment.
Education to support better care
This webinar is part of the Wellbeing Project of Global MPN Scientific Foundation, whose goal is to provide education based on scientific knowledge and help people living with MPN better understand their health.
Health education does not replace medical care, but it can help patients ask better questions, speak with healthcare professionals and take a more active role in their own care.
At Global MPN, we remind patients that any change related to diet, supplements, health habits or treatments should always be discussed with the medical team, especially for people living with a chronic hematological disease such as MPN.
The aim of these spaces is not to offer one-size-fits-all solutions, but to open responsible conversations that help integrate science, wellbeing and daily life.
A space to keep learning
Global MPN Scientific Foundation will continue to promote webinars, workshops and activities that bring clear, human and useful information to the international MPN community.
We thank José María Sánchez Navarro for his participation in this new Wellbeing Project session and all those who attended and shared their questions and concerns.
